Do your legs tell you something by evening?
Varicose veins start when the one-way valves in your leg veins leak and blood flows backward (venous reflux). These are the signs patients describe most often.
Heavy, aching legs
Legs that feel tired and heavy, worse after standing and better when raised.
Bulging, twisted veins
Rope-like blue or purple veins on the calf, thigh or behind the knee.
Night cramps
Calf cramps or restless legs that wake you up at night.
Swollen ankles
Sock marks and swelling around the ankles by the end of the day.
Itching & skin darkening
Itchy, brownish or hardened skin on the lower leg — a sign of advanced disease.
Spider veins
Fine red or blue web-like veins that can signal deeper reflux.
Recognize two or more? A 15–20 minute duplex ultrasound shows exactly whether leaking valves are the cause.

Your legs, in a specialist surgeon’s hands
Dr. Kim Byoung Joon is a thoracic & cardiovascular surgeon who chose to focus on varicose veins more than two decades ago. He performs the ultrasound mapping himself and walks you through the findings on screen, so you understand exactly which veins are leaking — and why your plan looks the way it does.
25 years of building a better vein treatment

Two decades. More than 20,000 procedures.
Varicose vein treatment is a skill built case by case. LEDAS passed 8,000 procedures in 2016, 10,000 in 2018 and 20,000 in 2022 — and by 2026 had treated 29,847 patients from 37 countries.
Diagnose precisely. Treat completely. Prevent relapse.
Most recurrences come from incomplete diagnosis, the wrong method, or no follow-up. The LEDAS system was built by Dr. Kim to address all three.

Diagnose
A 15–20 minute duplex ultrasound on Philips EPIQ Elite maps every refluxing vein — large and small. You watch and understand the results in real time.
About the exam →
Treat
EVLT 1940nm laser closes the main leaking veins; duplex-guided sclerotherapy treats hidden veins; sclerotherapy treats visible small veins. Local anesthesia, no incision.
How EVLT works →
Prevent relapse
Follow-up ultrasound every 1–2 years — or whenever overseas patients return to Korea — to find and treat new reflux early.
Relapse prevention →Minimal intervention. Measurable precision.
What a LEDAS treatment day actually involves.
No cutting
The laser fiber enters through a needle puncture.
15–20 min ultrasound
Every refluxing vein mapped and explained live.
Same-day discharge
Walk in, get treated, walk home the same day.
1940nm wavelength
Strongly absorbed by water in the vein wall.
Modern treatment vs. traditional vein stripping
| LEDAS approach | Traditional stripping | |
|---|---|---|
| Anesthesia | ✓ Local only | ✗ General or spinal |
| Incisions | ✓ None — needle puncture | ✗ Groin and leg incisions |
| Going home | ✓ Same day | ✗ Often a hospital stay |
| Walking | ✓ Immediately, encouraged | ✗ Longer recovery |
| Scarring & nerve risk | ✓ Minimized | ✗ Incision scars, nerve injury possible |
| Hidden veins between muscles | ✓ Duplex-guided sclerotherapy | ✗ Often left untreated |
| Long-term follow-up | ✓ Ultrasound every 1–2 years | ✗ Varies |

Varicose vein treatment in Korea – FAQ
Where is LEDAS Varicose Vein Clinic?
LEDAS is on the 12th floor of 10 Seomyeonmunhwa-ro, Busanjin-gu, in the Seomyeon medical district of Busan, South Korea. It is reachable by Busan Metro Lines 1 and 2, and by KTX from Seoul in roughly two and a half hours. See directions.
Do I need surgery or general anesthesia?
No. LEDAS treats varicose veins with laser (EVLT) and sclerotherapy under local anesthesia only, without incisions. Most patients walk out and go home the same day. See no-incision treatment.
Can varicose veins come back after treatment?
Varicose vein disease is chronic, so new leaking veins can form over time. LEDAS combines laser with ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and offers follow-up ultrasound every one to two years to catch and treat new reflux early. See recurrence.
Is English spoken at the clinic?
Yes. The international line (+82-70-4895-5086) offers English consultation, and coordinators interpret during your visit. Other languages can be arranged. See interpreter services.
How long do I need to stay in Korea?
It depends on your diagnosis and how many veins need treatment. Many patients plan several days to allow for the ultrasound, treatment and a check-up before flying home. See how many days you need.
